Managing Room Types in SiteMinder Channel Manager

This article explains how to manage your rooms in your SiteMinder Channel Manager.

1. How to Add a New Room Type

Important: Adding a new room type in the Channel Manager will not automatically create a new room type in your connected channels or Property Management System (PMS). You must update these systems separately.

For instructions on mapping new room types and rates to your PMS or channels, refer to the article Map Your Rate to Your PMS or Channels.

Note: When adding a new room type, please create matching room type names in your channels and system (such as PMS) as well. To will make connecting them easier in all systems.

To add a new room type in SiteMinder, follow these steps:

  • Click on Rooms & Rates in the menu.
  • Click on Room Types in the left menu
  • Click the Add room type button in the upper-right corner.
  • In first step General Information to following needs to be selected/done as there are mandatory to select or entered:
    • Room category: select the most closest category from the drop down. This information is not used further at this point.
    • Room type name: select the most closest category from the drop down. This information is not used further at this point.
    • Internal room type name: enter the name of the room you want to use. The name entered here, will show on your inventory grid, in reservations overview and so on.
    • Description for guest and Number of room of this type can be left empty.
    • Click on Next.
  • In the second step Occupancy, different occupancy settings can be entered, all are optional. Advised in to enter the Maximum occupancy only. Click on Next to go to the next step.
  • Step 3 Features and step 4 Media can be skipped. Click on Next.
  • In step 5 Review and Save, check if all entered information is correct, then click on Review and save to add the new room type.

2. How to Change the Name of a Room Type

To change the name of a room type, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Rooms & Rates in the menu.
  2. Click on Room Types in the left menu
  3. At the room type, click on the 3 dots at the right and select Edit room type
  4. Change the room name or other previous entered information
  5. Click Save to apply the changes.

3. How to Delete a Room Type

Attention: Deleting a room type in the Channel Manager has several important consequences:

  • This action is permanent and cannot be undone.
  • Deleting a room type will also delete any associated room rates and channel mappings.
  • It will not delete the room type or rates from connected channels' extranets or your PMS. You must manually delete it at your channels and in your system as well.

To delete a room type, follow these steps:

  1. Click on Rooms & Rates in the menu.
  2. Click on Room Types in the left menu
  3. At the room type, click on the 3 dots at the right and select Delete room type
  4. You will receive a warning message. Confirm by clicking Delete to permanently remove the room type.
  5. The room and its associated rates will now be removed from your channel manager.

Important: After deleting the room type, you should log in to the extranets of your booking channels and your PMS (if applicable) to delete or deactivate the room type and rates in those systems as well.
