What is tampered mode?

Tampered mode is a built-in security feature designed to protect your terminal from unauthorized physical access. During tampered mode you cannot use the terminal itself en it will show "Users (Prod) / Supervisor / Level 1 / Level 2 / Maintenance" and you can fill out a password but this is not your generic password used for other functionalities of the terminal.

Tampered mode is automatically triggered when the terminal detects:

  • A sudden impact or shock

  • An attempt to open the device

  • Potential interference with internal hardware or software

This feature helps safeguard your terminal from the risk of malicious modifications.

Why is my terminal in tampered mode?

Tampered mode may be triggered in a few common scenarios:

  • During shipping: The terminal might have been dropped or handled roughly in transit.

  • In-store incidents: The terminal may have been dropped, stepped on, or otherwise damaged.

  • False detection: In some cases, even without visible damage, the terminal may interpret certain vibrations or movements as tampering.

What should I do now?

Unfortunately, a terminal in Tampered mode cannot be used and will need to be replaced.

Please contact support (support@smarthotel.nl) with a picture of your terminal to get it replaced.
